Systems Administrator - Grade 17
Position Details:
Salary: starting at $28.35 / hour (DOE)

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the City’s information technology infrastructure and end-user systems. Duties include maintaining servers, network, and security systems, ensuring system availability, and providing end user support as the initial point of contact for technology issues.
Major Duties:
- Manages and supports the City’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN). Wired and wireless connectivity, and related hardware.
- Fields incoming tickets, emails, phone calls, and messages; diagnoses, researches, and resolves hardware and software issues in a timely manner.
- Uses ticketing software to track, document, and manage user issues and resolutions.
- Provides guidance, information and training to users regarding the proper use of IT systems and software.
- Manages user accounts, privileges, and access rights within Active Directory and other systems.
- Administers and supports the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring efficient operation, security compliance, and optimal user experience across Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and related services.
- Provides after-hours technical support and on-site assistance at City buildings as needed.
- Researches, tests, and recommends new technology solutions to improve efficiency and security.
- Assists in the procurement and implementation of new hardware, software, and systems.
- Assists other IT personnel on various projects and escalations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required by the Position:
- Proficiency in server hardware, operating systems, and virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and network systems.
- Familiarity with Windows and mobile operating systems (iOS/Android).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain security principles.
- Skill in diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks and projects.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Skills in providing technical support and training to end users.
- The work is typically performed at a desk or computer workstation, with intermittent standing, walking, or stooping. The employee may occasionally lift light or heavy objects and climb ladders.
- The employee must be able to drive to City facilities for on-site support.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of an associate’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, in addition to a high school education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Driver’s License
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license for the vehicles or equipment operated.
Education
- Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Applicants without a degree may still qualify with five or more years of relevant IT experience.
Experience
- One to three years of experience in IT systems administration, help desk support, or related technical work is preferred.
