Position Details:

Rate of Pay starting at $21.66/hour (based on experience)

Status: Non-Exempt | Full-time

Department:  Police

The Code Enforcement Officer will play a pivotal role in enforcing city codes and ordinances, ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of Mandan’s neighborhoods. Major Duties:

  • Code Enforcement: Interpret and enforce municipal, zoning, and regulatory codes. Investigate violations, gather evidence, and coordinate abatement procedures.
  • Animal Control: Enforce animal control ordinances, respond to animal-related complaints, and handle cases of cruelty, abuse, or neglect.
  • Parking Enforcement: Monitor and enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and coordinate towing when necessary.
  • Community Engagement: Communicate effectively with residents, businesses, and the public about code compliance, resolving issues with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for court actions, daily activities, inspections, and enforcement.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Code Enforcement: Strong understanding of city codes, ordinances, and enforcement procedures.
  • Animal Control: Experience handling and transporting animals safely, including knowledge of state animal laws.
  • Parking & Traffic: Familiarity with parking regulations and traffic laws.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze situations, resolve problems, and follow through on enforcement actions.
  • Communication: Clear, respectful, and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent), with specialized training or experience in enforcement or regulatory work.
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain a valid motorcycle endorsement for parking enforcement vehicles within one year. This can be acquired through on the job training. 
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct inspections and patrol the city as needed, sometimes in challenging conditions.
