Status: Non-Exempt/Part-Time/Non Benefitted (up to 19 hours per week)

Department:  Morton Mandan Public Library

JOB SUMMARY

This position assists in the building and grounds maintenance and custodial services for the Morton Mandan Public Library.


MAJOR DUTIES

• Cleans the building and grounds (e.g. reading spaces, staff work areas, meeting rooms, bathrooms, lights, windows, floors, grounds, snow removal, weed control, empties trash and recycling bins, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive environment.

• Assists in conducting maintenance checks on building systems to ensure safety and conditions of systems are performing correctly.

• Identifies and performs necessary repairs to building, grounds, and equipment in conjunction with supervisor and director.

• Prepares the library for daily operations (e.g. clearing debris or snow from walkways, confirming main doors are open, etc.); secures facilities and grounds by checking doors, alarms, lights, etc.

• Prepares rooms for events, meetings, and activities scheduled for the day.

• Installs and moves furniture.

• Waters and cares for plants.

• Performs related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Knowledge of custodial maintenance principles.

• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and related supplies.

• Knowledge of ground and landscape maintenance principles.

• Knowledge of safety practices and guidelines.

• Skill in the operation of custodial maintenance tools and equipment.

• Skill in the operation of ground maintenance equipment.

• Skill in scheduling and handling repairs and finishing work (i.e. painting, installation, etc.).

• Skills in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

• The work is typically performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
