Systems Administrator - Grade 17
The Systems Administrator plays a key role in supporting the systems and infrastructure that keep essential City services running across all departments. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of systems that directly impact daily operations.
To be successful in this role, you bring relevant, hands-on experience supporting systems and infrastructure and are comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex issues, and supporting both infrastructure and end-user environments.
This position works closely with system administration functions across all City departments. No two days are the same, providing ongoing opportunities to expand your knowledge and grow your experience in IT.
Position Details:
Salary: Ranging from $58,978.61-$73,723.26 annually (Depending On Experience)
Status: Non-Exempt/Full Time

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the City’s information technology infrastructure and end-user systems. Duties include maintaining servers, network, and security systems, ensuring system availability, and providing end user support.
Major Duties:
- Installs, configures, monitors, maintains, and upgrades IT infrastructure, including servers, network switches, virtual environments, and related applications.
- Manages and supports the City’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN). Wired and wireless connectivity, and related hardware.
- Installs wiring and cabling in support of network infrastructure.
- Uses ticket management software to respond to emails and telephone calls with requests for assistance of various technical issues; identifies and resolves problems and issues in a timely matter.
- Installs, configures, and supports end-user devices including computers, phones, tablets, and printers/copiers.
- Provides guidance, information and training to users regarding the proper use of IT systems and software.
- Manages user accounts, privileges, and access rights within Active Directory and other systems.
- Administers and supports the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring efficient operation, security compliance, and optimal user experience across Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra, Intune, and related services.
- Provides after-hours technical support and on-site assistance at City buildings as needed.
- Researches, tests, and recommends new technology solutions to improve efficiency and security.
- Assists in the procurement and implementation of new hardware, software, and systems.
- Assists other IT personnel on various projects and escalations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required by the Position:
- Proficiency in server hardware, operating systems, and virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and network systems.
- Familiarity with Windows and mobile operating systems (iOS/Android).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain security principles.
- Skill in diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks and projects.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills.
- Skills in providing technical support and training to end users.
Minimum Qualifications:
Driver’s License
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license for the vehicles or equipment operated.
Education
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, typically obtained through an associate’s degree in a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
Experience
- Sufficient recent experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication with internal and external stakeholders in English required
